Our Editor's Take

On The Pen Pals Podcast, listeners make the decisions. They choose the podcast topic through the letters they send. Hosts Rory Scovel and Daniel Van Kirk do their best to respond. In some episodes, special guests such as Sarah Silverman help. What does she think about feuding with neighbors or relationship dealbreakers? Listeners can find out.

Daniel brings his comedic wit as cohost to the podcast. He's a stand-up comic and appeared on Bob's Burgers, The UCB Show, and the NFL Network. Daniel also hosts the podcast Dumb People Town with the acting duo the Sklar Brothers. Fellow stand-up comic Rory is also a writer and actor. Listeners may know him from his roles in I Feel Pretty and Ground Floor or from Comedy Central.

On The Pen Pals Podcast, Rory and Dan invite letters on any topic. They can be fun, serious, ridiculous, sad, or happy. Listeners may ask about golf, wedding planning, time travel, or agoraphobia. In one episode, letter-writer Amy talks about her distant father. Now, he's sharing his love for her and she's unsure how to feel. In a second letter, a man named Luke talks about getting in a fight with his spouse. The argument concludes when he suggests their daughter is responsible for his broken phone.

Guest Brett Goldstein joins the pen pals in one podcast episode. He plays the role of athlete Roy Kent in the comedy series Ted Lasso. The three discuss polyamory. Another letter is about men sitting to urinate. How often do men do this? The answer may surprise some. When actor Pete Holmes comes on, he responds to a letter about grandparents on the dating scene. Actor Will Ferrell joins another episode. He helps a high schooler and shares adolescent memories. Revered comedian Conan O'Brien offers his opinion on the "sex talk." Listeners also hear his views on suicide.

"Get a pen and be a friend," Rory and Daniel sing in the opening number. They respond to their many pen pals every week. New episodes of The Pen Pals Podcast air on Wednesdays.
